PROJECT RUNWAY

Sweet summer projects! Comfy shorts, a water bottle bag, crisscross headband, and more. No experience necessary. Students will make, showcase, and take home all their projects. Hand and machine sewing techniques are taught with SAFETY FIRST always in mind. The final day is a showcase where friends and family are invited to see the projects in action.

VIDEO GAME DESIGN – DRAGONS AND UNICORNS

“Dragons and Unicorns: Fun and Fury” inspires students to cultivate their creativity through character development and video game design. Students will design mythical dragons and unicorns that embark on a legendary quest to overcome obstacles and challenges, until they face an epic challenge to save the world! PARENT NOTE: Students may be asked to bring toys from home to photograph and add to their video game stories.

CODING ANIMATION & VIDEO GAMES

STEM Video Game Enrichment for the 21st Century learner. Each {YEL!} Coding class follows three basic components: 

  • Teach It!…Students learn different video game and storytelling design techniques (movement blocks, control blocks, basic animation, adding scores,  etc.)
  • Code It!… Students use Scratch® to code their own story and video games.
  • Explore It!…Students can write their own story and video game code, experiment with it and test new options.  Scratch® is an MIT created and monitored, kid-safe web interface.  It uses a drag and drop programming interface to teach students of all levels coding practices.

ROBOTICS: SCOUT ‘BOTS

Build and code space rovers to scout out Mars, the moon, and other extraterrestrial environments. Also, create a dragster and volcano alarm to learn basic computer programming.

MAGIC

Amaze your family and friends with prestidigitation and legerdemain (magic tricks…that is). Students will learn how to master and perform multiple magic tricks each day to showcase tricks to family and friends. The Magic class is crafted for fun, inclusion, and applause for all magicians. Join the class where the focus is on hocus-pocus!

DESTINATION MARS: ROCKETRY COURSE

Launch and watch your very own rocket speed 300 feet into the air! Then it is yours to take home. Students will make multiple rockets of varying difficulty throughout this session. We will use these rockets and airplanes to investigate basic aeronautical concepts including propulsion, thrust, lift, drag, and more. We will also hypothesize about travel in outer space, life on Mars, and how to get an astronaut to Mars. NOTE: Parents will be asked to contribute two, 2-liter soda bottles (empty) for two different experiments.
