June 28-July 4: Nature Week

GIVEAWAY WEEK!

We are excited to partner with The Plant Place  at 1746 W. Northland Avenue as they help you bring some nature home with you!   They invite you into their shop to learn about Succulents, how to care for a succulent, determine when to split it to create multiple plants out of 1, and take a succulent home with you! You can visit Monday, June 29 – Friday, July 3 during their open hours of 9:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Make sure to mention you saw this on APRD when you visit for this FREE offer!

Weekly Challenge: Visit at least 3 parks this week!

Read Aloud with the Appleton Public Library – “The Earth Book” by Todd Parr

Visit the ALL-NEW Memorial Park StoryWalk®

StoryWalk® combines family time, physical activity, and literacy in a fun, interactive walk in nature.  Follow the story, page-by-page, on the signs along the trail.  The trail begins behind the Scheig Center (1313 Wtizke Blvd.) inside Appleton Memorial Park.  Head to the south side of the building to find the first page of the story and follow the trail to read the story, complete activities, and enjoy the nature around you.  The first story is “Explorers of the Wild” by Cale Atkinson.  The book will be swapped out throughout the summer.  For more information, click here!

Let’s Go on a Leaf Hunt!

How many different leaves can you identify on your hike today?  Head on over to one of our great trails today and see how many of of these you can find on the chart.

Take part in our first ever Best Park Tournament!

Which of our 32 parks will come out as the winner of the most popular park in all of Appleton?  We start our series of polls on our Facebook Page this week and will continue over the summer until we get to the champion.  Stay tuned for the tournament bracket and make sure your favorites make it to the top!

Let’s Create Some Fun Nature Art

Gather items from around the outside of your home or go on a walk to collect leaves, grass, flowers, pine cones, stones, basically any nature item (that isn’t your neighbors).  When you get home start arranging your items anyway you want to make your own special creation.  Use your imagination, find nature pieces to make the Alphabet, create a nature masterpiece or a leaf mask. Watch this quick one minute video to get you started.
