We are excited to be partnering with Fox Valley Mindful Learners to offer an opportunity for those ages 9 -17 a place to come and learn the skills of mindfulness.  After a year of uncertainty and changes, a little mindfulness could go a long way.

Why Mindfulness for Tweens and Teens?  Why should you cultivate your adolescent’s inner investigator?   Mindfulness skills teach your child to be more observant of the world around them.  Mindfulness not only creates a greater awareness of the present moment, but it also helps your child grow these superpowers:

  • Develop analytical and creative thinking skills
  • Strengthen self-control
  • Increase attention span
  • Promote positivity
  • Cultivate healthy coping skills

About the Teacher: The Mindfulness Mysteries! Workshop Series is offered by Fox Valley Mindful Learners. Fox Valley Mindful Learners was founded in 2017 by Christy Sprotte, Nationally Certified Private Practice School Psychologist. As a school psychologist and mom to two children, Christy has a passion for empowering youth to reach their full potential and achieve their dreams. In 2007, Christy co-wrote the Students Creating a Positive Self (SCRAPS) curriculum as a tool to build self-image and self-confidence in young girls. Since that time, Christy has continued her mission to help children promote self-awareness by receiving advanced training in yoga and mindfulness for youth as well as by becoming a certified family empowerment facilitator.

Calling all Super Sleuths!  Join us for a 2-hour retreat with your adolescent to build emotional resilience in the face of a pandemic.  Through the theme of “Decoding the Mystery of the Mind,” you will spend time with your child cultivating connection, practicing basic mindfulness skills, growing your gratitude muscles, and solving a series of puzzles and riddles together.  The workshop will conclude with a youth yoga session while parents participate in an adults-only discussion on the topic of mindful parenting.  Please wear comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat or beach towel (yoga mats can be provided upon request).  No prior meditation or yoga experience required; please come as is.
